Our Philosophy

“Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.”

Chinese Proverb

Foundations Family Day Care is committed to providing the best educational and care outcomes for children. We believe children benefit from enriching environments in which they are able to explore, experiment and use their imaginations. They need to be frequently out in their community, to have regular routines and to be able to interact with nature. Having high expectations for children, during their explorations and experimentations, encourages them to do far more than we, and perhaps they, believe to be possible. Children are born with the ability to learn: It is up to each of us to foster that natural inclination, through our interactions and through the ways we allow children to be themselves, to make their own choices.

Foundations Family Day Care believes positive, respectful relationships form the basis of a child’s health and wellbeing. Relationships between children, family members, Educators and Coordination Unit members all contribute to positive opportunities and outcomes for all, particularly the children. The partnerships formed through respectful relationships enable everyone to achieve far more than they are able by themselves.

Our service believes strongly in the benefits of diversity, equity and inclusion. We all come from a range of situations and cultures, from broad all the way to the cultures within individual families. It is by including all these elements that we encourage children to appreciate the people around them and the interesting ideas we can learn from and share with each individual.

Our key ideals come from the Principles of Belonging, Being & Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia V2. These are:

  • Secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships

  • Partnerships

  • Respect for diversity

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives

  • Equity, inclusion and high expectations

  • Sustainability

  • Critical reflection and ongoing professional learning

  • Collaborative leadership and teamwork
